Chicken Keeping Courses in Lincolnshire
Courses Run By:
Fenella Lewin Experience with chickens:We have been keeping commercial free range laying hens in small flocks for 5 years, 2 of them under organic certification. We don't have thousands of hens, usually about 350 plus the ones we sell. This gives us a closer take on the hobby hen keeper than a large egg farmer. Before then we knew very little about it - so we can remember what it felt like not to know a comb from a wattle, or hay from straw. Chicken Keeping Group Courses InformationWe run short informal courses fortnightly at our tranquil farm on the Newark side of Lincoln. With a maximum of 10 attendees, the courses are two hours long on a Saturday afternoon with drinks and cookies on arrival, and drinks and cake at the end. There are lots of chances to handle and observe hens, and to ask questions. We have found existing poultry keepers derive as much benefit as absolute novices. The course covers food and digestion, housing and shelter, controlling parasites and promoting good health, egg laying, egg problems and selling eggs. And anything else that comes up along the way. The cost is £15 per person, this includes refreshments, course notes and a voucher off a starter kits or houses. Contact Chicken Keeping Courses
